Using the Eye
Tracker For Henderson1
STEP 1 : TURNING ON THE EYE TRACKER
Anytime you want to record eye position data you must first make sure there is power to the camera and to the lights mounted on the side of the computer. As of now the power button for this device is the "AUX2" button on the left side of the power strip that the monitor sits on. Once the power is on uncap the lens from the eye tracker's camera.
STEP 2: START THE EYE
TRACK SOFTWARE
Then start the eye tracker software. From the start menu go to programs and the "EyeTechDS" folder and start "Quick Glance 32". When you start the program a window will open showing you the camera's view.
When the head is placed in the chin rest, the camera's view should be centered on the observer's eye. If the chin rest is in place do not alter the height of the chin rest, instead the chair's height is adjustable. You may need to slide the chin rest left and right to center the observer's eye. To use the chin rest, it is best to lean into the chin cup and rest your forehead against the upper bar. (NOTE: If the chin rest has been removed, when reinstalling it the height should be such that the person's eye is near the top of the monitor)
STEP 4: POSSITIONING THE EYE TRACKER
Once the eye is centered in the camera's view, dim the light, and hit the "View Full Size" open full view button on the eye tracker software. With the lights dim, cover one of the lights on the side of the monitor with one hand. With the other hand, adjust the light on the other side of the monitor. You want to watch the image on the monitor as you adjust this light, move the light so it appears that it is shinning directly on the subject's eye. After setting one light, cover the other light and repeat the process. Once the lights are focused on the eyes, click on the image and this should shrink the image and bring up the eye tracker software panel.
STEP 5: CALIBRATING THE TRACKER
First hit "setup" then hit option 1 - "Select/Create User". Choose the observer "hendersonsubject" from the list and hit "make current." Then hit "done". The window should confirm that "hendersonsubject" is the current user. Hit "OK."
Next hit option 4 - "calibrate". Hit "Next" and run the calibration routine. Once the routine is done it will give you a calibration score. If the score is over 10.0 hit done and go back and repeat STEP 4. If the calibration score is <10.0 hit done and then click the more options button. Make sure the check box for "Enable Eye Science SDK" is checked. Hit Done to take you back to the quick glance page with the view of the eye visible.
At this point you are ready to run an experiment. However you must leave the eye tracker software running in the background while you run the experiment.
Other notes: The speed of eye position readings can be altered in the more options page…please do not change these settings unless you are told to do so by Hal or Mark.
