Henderson Instructions

Thanks for your participation.  We are interested in how people look at pictures that they will later have to recognize.  During the experiment we will monitor your eye position while you view photographs.  After you have viewed all of the photographs you will be given a test to determine how well you encoded the information in the photos.

Tracking eye movements can be a tricky business.  The eye tracker fails to produce good data if the subject moves his/her head during the experiment.  To minimize this error we have a chin rest that will help stabilize your head.  In addition, before the task begins we need to calibrate the eye-tracker for your eye.  During this calibration and during the subsequent test it is important that you hold you head as still as possible.  To this end please avoid moving, and do not talk during the calibration and testing.

Once the experimenter has the eye tracker calibrated, the experiment will begin.   It will have 4 parts.  At the beginning and end of the experiment a series of 4 red crosses will appear on the screen.  These crosses allow us to check that the calibration is still accurate.  Please look directly at these crosses when they appear.  In the middle portion of the experiment you will see the photographs.  Thanks again for your participation.
