FACTS101 &
PICTURES101:
Display Presentation: Top left corner of screen will present item number (“Item 1”.. Item 2”.. “Item 20”). Present each stimuli in the center of the screen. Facts are variable in length.
Random Display: Facts are randomly displayed. Randomization is different for every session and every test within that session. This ordering should be hard coded in the software so it remains the same every time the program is run. Every stimulus will be presented along with an audio tone, and a different tone will be presented when feedback begins.
Experiments and sessions should be separate programs. Experiments will be run consecutively, beginning with “Facts 101” each session. Programs will be named “Pictures 101 Session 1,” “Facts 101 Session 3” and the like.
SESSION 1 INSTRUCTIONS (Facts101):
Audio instructions will be presented over the speaker, along with visual bullets on the screen, to stress the most important information from the instructions.
Audio Instructions:
“During each session of “Facts 101” you will learn twenty facts. In the final session, several months from now, you will learn twenty different facts. The facts you learn may change each session, so we can study changes in learning over time. Please pay attention to each item. During each session you will be given multiple tests, with feedback, to help you learn the items. Your test booklet has a number of pages. Please flip the page when asked, and do not go back to previous pages under any conditions. Answers to items should be made in the boxes provided. If you think you might know the answer to an item, please write that answer in the box. There is no penalty for an incorrect guess, and you may write partial answers. The current item number is presented at the top of the screen and on your answer sheet. Do not write an answer down after feedback begins for that item. On each test, the items will be presented in a new random order. If you get out of order, just resume using the correct item number. If you have any questions, please ask now or between tests.”
