Stimuli:

36 Swahili-English word-pairs (p. 2, with English words that permit accurate computer coding)

Design:

6 within-subjects learning conditions (3 items per condition):

2.      3 sec duration, 3 sec delay

3.      3 sec duration, 6 sec delay

4.      6 sec duration, 0 sec delay

5.      6 sec duration, 3 sec delay

6.      6 sec duration, 6 sec delay

2 within-subjects RI conditions:

1.      1 day (15 items per condition)

2.      7 days (15 items per condition)

Learning phase:

·        Present each item for 5 sec (5 sec x 36 items = 3 min)

·        For Test Trials, assume 5 sec to provide answer (but allow unlimited time)

·        Test 1: Immediately after presentation, test each item in a random order (36 items x average of 7.5 sec per feedback delay/duration interval + 5 sec to provide answer = 7.5 min).

·        Test 2: Immediately after Test 1, repeat Test 1 with items in same condition but tested in a new random order (7.5 min).

·        Test 3: Immediately after Test 2, repeat Test 2 with items in same condition but tested in a new random order (7.5 min).

·        Assume 3 min for consent and instructions (total time = 28.5 min)

Test phase:

·        Test each item in a new random order without feedback

·        Test half of items after 1 day (e.g., items 1-18)

·        Test remaining half of items after 7 days (e.g., items 19-36)

·        Assume 5 sec to provide answer (total time = 3 min)
